A medical professional has issued a reminder to the public about three crucial steps to help mitigate the transmission of a novel strain of the Covid virus.

The rapidly spreading Stratus strain is known for causing unique symptoms in addition to the typical manifestations of the Coronavirus. This strain is categorized into two variants, XFG and XFG.3, with the latter currently dominating the infection cases in England, according to experts.

Dr. Kader, who imparts medical advice on his TikTok channel @ask.doctor.k, has reassured the public that they can take preventive actions to reduce the risk of contracting the virus, especially during the onset of autumn when susceptibility to illnesses tends to increase.

In response to the surge in Stratus cases, Dr. Kader outlined three essential measures in a recent TikTok video to help lower the chances of infection:

Stratus, which was first identified earlier this year and acknowledged as a threat to the UK during the summer, spreads more rapidly than previous strains. Its atypical symptoms include a hoarse voice, bloating, and acid reflux, which are not commonly associated with earlier forms of the Coronavirus.

Describing the new variant, Dr. Kader stated, “The latest Covid strain, Stratus or XFG, exhibits slightly different symptoms compared to its predecessors. This variant appears to initiate with symptoms affecting the ear, nose, and throat, with many individuals reporting a notably hoarse voice or a severely sore throat. Additionally, it presents with more gastrointestinal symptoms, including complaints of nausea, vomiting, bloating, and acid reflux.”

While acknowledging that Stratus tends to cause milder infections, Dr. Kader cautioned that it is highly contagious, explaining, “You may have observed an increase in illnesses this week, with a significant rise in Covid cases among hospitalized patients. The rapid spread of infections can be attributed to changing weather conditions, as temperatures drop, leading people to spend more time indoors and facilitate the transmission of viruses.”

The doctor’s TikTok video has garnered over 19,000 likes and has been shared by more than 24,000 users. Comments left by viewers include one individual stating, “I am currently experiencing it, and it is much worse than before.” Another user shared, “I tested positive for Covid two days ago, and the experience is markedly different from my previous encounters with the virus. I am not experiencing sneezing or coughing; instead, I am facing issues with my ears, feeling dizzy, and off balance.”
