Wearing socks to bed, a controversial topic, has been suggested by a doctor as a potential aid for falling asleep faster. Dr. Trisha Pasricha, in an Instagram post by the Washington Post, recommended this simple method, stating that warming up your feet has been scientifically proven to induce drowsiness, comparable to some over-the-counter sleep medications.

According to the internal medicine physician and Harvard Medical School instructor, the concept behind this is based on research spanning decades. The theory is that heat from the socks dilates blood vessels in the skin, which in turn helps cool down the body’s core temperature.

Additionally, Dr. Pasricha suggested that soaking your feet in warm water for 10 minutes or taking a warm shower an hour or two before bedtime can also promote drowsiness, potentially helping you fall asleep 7 to 10 minutes faster.

Feedback on this advice has been mixed, with some individuals expressing positive experiences with wearing socks to bed, while others find it uncomfortable. Despite the varying opinions, the potential benefits of this simple bedtime habit continue to garner attention from those seeking better sleep quality.
