BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay shared with his audience how he found a solution for a less common medical issue affecting nearly one in ten individuals. During his usual morning broadcast, the 51-year-old host revealed that he had purchased new shoe insoles to address a long-standing health concern.
On his show on Wednesday, Vernon opened up about his condition, Morton’s neuroma, a nerve-related problem in his left foot that affected the sensation in some of his toes. He described his approach to managing the discomfort by investing in specialized elevated-arched insoles, which significantly reduced his pain frequency.
While Vernon found relief with his chosen method, the NHS defines Morton’s neuroma as a condition where tissue thickens around a nerve in the foot due to irritation or damage. The health service recommends self-administered treatments, such as resting and elevating the foot, taking pain relievers, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding high-impact activities like running and jumping.
In other news, Vernon expressed his sorrow over the recent passing of boxing icon Ricky Hatton, emphasizing Hatton’s friendly and engaging personality in personal encounters. Vernon’s broadcasting career has seen notable success, including taking over the BBC Radio 2 mid-morning slot from Ken Bruce in 2023, after hosting programs like T4 and All Star Family Fortunes.
Looking ahead, Vernon is set to return to ITV’s M&S Dress the Nation with co-host AJ Odudu, featuring guest judge Frankie Bridge. The show, which previously welcomed celebrity guests like Mel B and Alex Scott, will air on ITV at 6.55 pm tonight.
