A man, aged 55, has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following the tragic death of a 17-year-old girl who was earlier reported missing. The young girl was discovered at a residence in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, around 9 am on Sunday. Despite the efforts made by emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. While formal identification is pending, authorities believe the deceased is Catherine, the missing teenager reported on Saturday. Her family has been notified and is receiving support from the police.

The arrested 55-year-old man is currently in police custody under suspicion of murder. The cause of the girl’s death has not been determined yet, and law enforcement is maintaining an open investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, believed to be Catherine. She emphasized that the investigation team is exploring various leads and maintaining an open-minded approach. The crime scene will be secured as investigations continue. Individuals with any relevant information pertaining to the incident in Whalley Close on Saturday and Sunday are urged to come forward to aid the inquiry.

Authorities stress the importance of even the smallest details in building a comprehensive understanding of the case. Anyone with information, including CCTV footage or other relevant materials, is encouraged to contact the police. Information can also be shared anonymously through Crimestoppers.
