Shayne Dawson-Dymond, a 16-year-old sports enthusiast, is determined to overcome partial paralysis and get back to his beloved sports activities. Previously an active horse rider and kayaker, Shayne remains optimistic about returning to his sports endeavors despite the challenges.
In an interview with PA Real Life, Shayne expressed his resilience, stating that setbacks should not hinder progress. Transitioning from full mobility to partial disability has been a challenging experience, especially at his young age, but he is determined to push through the hardships.
Shayne’s health journey began at the age of six when he was diagnosed with a benign bone tumor near his left knee. Despite undergoing treatment and regular monitoring, complications arose during a biopsy in November 2024, leading to his current condition.
Despite the setbacks, Shayne maintains a positive outlook. He has even taken steps towards reengaging in sports, participating in a kayaking race. However, he faced health issues during the race, experiencing convulsions and subsequent paralysis, possibly due to functional neurological disorder.
Currently, Shayne is undergoing physiotherapy and working with the GB Junior Team for Paracanoeing to regain strength and mobility. He aims to raise awareness for individuals facing similar challenges while aspiring to return to competitive sports.
Although Shayne may never walk unaided again, his mother, Claire, is dedicated to enhancing his quality of life. A GoFundMe page has been set up to acquire a specialized wheelchair with an electric bike attachment to promote independence. The fundraising goal is set at £6,000, with support from the community already exceeding £3,500.
Claire emphasizes the importance of resilience and advocacy for loved ones facing adversity, urging others to keep fighting for their children in times of hardship.
