Britain is preparing for an impending heavy rainfall event next week as a potent rainstorm moves across the nation, expected to bring downpours of up to 1cm per hour to various regions. Advanced weather models from WXCharts indicate that the storm is projected to hit during the early hours of Friday, October 3, with intense rain affecting parts of Scotland, including the Scottish Highlands, Dumfries and Galloway, and even Edinburgh. Additionally, regions like Inverness, Aberdeen, and Newcastle will experience significant rainfall, while Manchester will also see early showers. Conversely, much of the southern areas are forecasted to remain dry initially.
By 6am, the rainfall is set to amplify over Scotland, particularly impacting Edinburgh, Inverness, Dumfries and Galloway, and East Ayrshire with heavy downpours at a rate of 1cm per hour. The north-eastern parts will also face substantial rainfall, while the southern regions of England, Wales, and the Midlands are expected to have milder conditions at this stage.
Later in the day, around lunchtime, the storm is anticipated to progress southward, affecting cities like Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, London, Southampton, and Newcastle with widespread downpours as the rain swathes across the country.
The storm’s approach follows earlier alerts from the Met Office, which had forewarned about showers and prolonged rainy periods across various areas, with a focus on heavier rains in the north-west. The Met Office’s long-term forecast from September 28 to October 7 suggests a transition to drier conditions for many regions after a spell of rain during the weekend. While occasional showers or longer rainy periods are probable across the country, the northwest is likely to bear the brunt of the wettest weather, with the chance of windier conditions also concentrated in that region. Other parts of the country may experience more extended periods of dry and fine weather along with morning mist and fog in some areas, with temperatures expected to remain around average. Uncertainty increases heading into early October, but a similar weather pattern is expected to persist nationwide.
