No more waiting around for that perfect crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside jacket potato. A professional chef has revealed her secret hack to nailing the ideal spud in next to no time – and it doesn’t involve hours of oven cooking.
Michelin-trained chef Poppy O’Toole, who is taking TikTok by storm as @poppycooks, has dished out her top tips for a quick and easy jacket potato that’s making people ditch their ovens for good – the video has already hit over three million views. Poppy declares: “Now I know I’m a professional chef and I do love fine dining, but I want to show you a cost-effective way to cook.”
She further enthuses about her favourite kitchen gadget, exclaiming: “At the minute I’m using my air fryer to cook – and I love it.”
Eager to share her trick, Poppy reveals: “Jacket potatoes, lovely comforting dinner… and really good if you’re in a rush as this is a quick recipe.”
Getting down to business, she stabs two jacket potatoes with a fork, gives them a good rub-down with oil and salt, before zapping them in the microwave for six to 10 minutes at 800 watts, reports the Express.
Then comes the game-changer as Poppy instructs: “Then it goes straight into the air fryer at 200C for about 15-20 minutes and that makes it super golden on the outside, it gets crisped up and the inside is super fluffy, delicate and steaming hot.”
The pièce de résistance? “They’re a great base for a cost-efficient and energy-efficient dinner.”
This isn’t just a quick-fix method – it opens up a world of delicious toppings, making it a real dinner winner.
Having an air fryer readily available on the kitchen counter means you can easily add a burst of extra flavour to your potato by melting your preferred toppings just before serving.
Poppy said: “You can load it up with whatever you fancy, I like myself a little bit of chilli-cheese or beans.”
