Households in a specific region of the UK are receiving £70 supermarket vouchers to assist with living expenses. This initiative is part of the Household Support Fund, which is managed by Wakefield Council. The fund offers various forms of aid such as energy support, supermarket vouchers, and cash grants.

The vouchers are being distributed to low-income households that receive council tax assistance, with pensioners already having received a £70 voucher in November. Additional vouchers are scheduled for distribution to other eligible households. Families receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher starting December 15, while all other qualifying households will receive a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12.

Residents do not need to apply for the vouchers as they will be automatically sent within 14 days of the specified dates. Wakefield Council emphasizes caution against potential scammers targeting residents.

For those outside Wakefield, it is recommended to explore the support available through their local council’s Household Support Fund. For example, Blackpool Council is offering energy assistance of £200 to eligible households and £300 to larger qualifying households. Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship and provide recent bank statements for all household members.

Applicants do not need to be receiving Universal Credit or other benefits to qualify for the fund, but only one award can be claimed within a 12-month period. Payments are made directly to energy providers and reflected as credits on bills or meters. Interested individuals can apply through their council’s website.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is also providing £120 vouchers to eligible residents, with two £60 vouchers already distributed to working-age households and more to be distributed to pensioner households. Additionally, one-off £120 payments are available to low-income residents who pay energy bills and do not receive Council Tax Reduction.
