A man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering a woman and concealing her body in a disorderly flat in Swansea. Leanne Williams, 47, suffered a brutal attack resulting in multiple serious injuries, including a fractured skull.
Matthew Battenbough, 34, admitted to the murder and received a minimum term of 20 years and 114 days at Swansea Crown Court. The court heard that Leanne Williams, who lived alone and struggled with addiction, was vulnerable and known to perform sex work for money and drugs.
Battenbough and Williams were acquainted from Swansea city center. On the day of the incident, they were captured on CCTV together before returning to Williams’ flat. Only Battenbough knows the exact events that took place inside the flat, as he did not provide an explanation for his actions.
Williams’ body was found by police after her friend reported her missing. The post-mortem examination revealed severe injuries and signs of sexual activity. Battenbough’s DNA was found on items near the body. He showed no remorse during the court proceedings and was sentenced to a lengthy prison term.
