Keir Starmer commended the courage of emergency services and security personnel for averting a greater tragedy following a terrorist attack at a synagogue in Manchester. The Prime Minister expressed sympathy to the victims’ families and those affected by the “horrific incident,” assuring the Jewish community of unified support in the upcoming days.
“I assure you that in the approaching days, you will witness a different Britain, one characterized by compassion, decency, and love,” stated Mr. Starmer. He extended condolences on behalf of the nation to the impacted families and victims, acknowledging the vital role of Greater Manchester police, first responders, and security specialists in preventing a more severe calamity.
The Prime Minister interrupted a meeting with European leaders in Denmark to convene an emergency Cobra meeting in London in response to the attack that resulted in the deaths of two members of the Jewish community. Additionally, four individuals sustained serious injuries during the assault on Yom Kippur, a significant day in the Jewish calendar.
During the Cobra meeting, Mr. Starmer, accompanied by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, and senior officials, highlighted the escalating anti-Semitic sentiments, necessitating continuous protection for Jewish establishments and communities due to the persistent threat of hatred.
The escalating hate was underscored by the recent tragic incident, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance. The Jewish community can expect heightened police presence as Mr. Starmer pledged to ensure their safety by all means possible. The Prime Minister empathized with the Jewish population, acknowledging their fears and vowing to provide the security they rightfully deserve.
“I pledge that the forthcoming days will showcase a compassionate, decent, and loving Britain. Our nation will unite to embrace your community and demonstrate that Britain is a secure haven where you are valued and protected,” affirmed the Prime Minister.
