A tip from a British Gas energy expert suggests a clever way to keep your home warm without turning on your central heating. According to smart energy engineer Jessica Rawstron, you can maximize the heat from your oven by leaving the door open after cooking to slowly transfer the warmth into your kitchen. This simple trick can help maintain a cozy temperature in your house while you enjoy your meal, but caution should be taken to keep children and pets away from the oven door.

In addition to this advice, British Gas recommends various steps to prepare your home for winter, such as sealing gaps around windows and doors to prevent draughts. It’s also essential to ensure that your radiators are functioning efficiently by bleeding them regularly and staying on top of your annual boiler service.

As parts of the UK face yellow warnings for snow and ice due to plummeting temperatures, households are likely to rely more on their heating systems, especially as energy bills continue to rise. The average household paying by direct debit can now anticipate an annual gas and electricity cost of £1,758, subject to the price cap restrictions on unit rates and standing charges.

The price cap, which is reviewed every three months, currently sets the yearly cost at £1,711 for pre-payment meter users and £1,894 for those paying upon receipt of the bill. It’s important to note that the price cap does not limit the total energy cost, as it depends on individual usage. If you are not on a fixed energy tariff, you will fall under the price cap regulations.

Looking ahead, the price cap is scheduled to be adjusted again in April 2026. Stay informed by selecting Daily Mirror as a ‘Preferred Source’ on Google News for quick access to the latest news updates.
