A 16-year-old girl returned home from school to a chilling revelation from her older brother, hinting at something dreadful. Following a trail of blood, she discovered her mother’s boyfriend decapitated in the bathroom, a knife still lodged in his neck.
In a disturbing incident in the West Brighton area of Staten Island, New York, NYPD officers responded to a 911 call from the residence. The 45-year-old victim, a sanitation worker with severe vision impairment nearing retirement, had suffered a frenzied attack resulting in multiple stab wounds to his head and neck.
The victim’s girlfriend’s 19-year-old son was apprehended at the scene after the girl alerted the authorities. Described as having a history of mental health issues, the boy confessed to his sister about doing something terrible upon her return from school.
Despite a past of domestic altercations within the family, a neighbor, Mariano Castro, expressed surprise as he had never witnessed any discord between the deceased man and his girlfriend’s son. According to Castro, the pair appeared harmonious while engaging in activities like lawn maintenance and barbecuing in their backyard.
A close friend of the victim, Louis Ortiz, fondly remembered him as a kind and generous individual who would go out of his way to help others. Expressing disbelief at the tragic turn of events, Ortiz emphasized the victim’s love for fishing and the shock of seeing the incident unfold on TV before rushing to the scene.
Louis further disclosed the son’s ongoing struggles with mental health issues, suggesting a need for better support for individuals in crisis situations. The troubled teenager has been taken into custody, with witnesses noting his emergence from the house with blood-stained shoes, while investigators in protective gear commenced examining the crime scene.
NYPD is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
