On September 13, 2025, a significant far-right event took place in central London. Tommy Robinson, also known as Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, a convicted criminal known for his anti-immigrant and Islamophobic views, orchestrated the “Unite the Kingdom” gathering, attracting a crowd of over 100,000 supporters.

It is important to note that not all attendees of Robinson’s rally were necessarily racist, but it is undeniable that the event attracted individuals with racist inclinations.

Several speakers at the rally advocated for the expulsion of immigrants and the restriction of religions other than Christianity. Elon Musk, the wealthiest person globally, made an appearance through a video link, endorsing the rally and urging the audience to “fight back or die.” Musk’s statements, coming from an immigrant himself, previously working illegally in the United States, were not only provocative but also perilous.

The surge in support for Tommy Robinson reflects a broader global trend of far-right populism, fueled in part by figures like President Donald Trump. Trump’s use of divisive language regarding immigration, religion, and nationalism has normalized extremist rhetoric, providing fertile ground for Robinson’s movement in the UK.

During the September 13 event, Robinson was seen proudly waving a Trump flag while leading chants of “Trump, Trump, Trump!” This symbolic act emphasized the ideological connection between the two men. For British women opposing Robinson’s agenda, this transatlantic partnership of hate reinforces their determination to resist authoritarianism and misogyny.

In contrast to the far-right gathering, around 5,000 counter-protesters, including the Women’s Block coalition, stood against intolerance. This demonstration was not merely a reaction to the day’s events but a continuation of a longstanding tradition of British women opposing fascism and far-right ideologies.

The Women’s Block rejects the notion that safety can be achieved through discriminatory practices. They advocate for solidarity, justice, and equality as the true sources of protection. Robinson’s rhetoric of safeguarding children and preserving British culture masks a politics of fear that aims to exclude certain groups.

The counter-protest on September 13 was a statement of defiance against attempts to co-opt identities for divisive purposes. It represented a united front with trade unionists, anti-racist activists, and ordinary citizens who envision an inclusive Britain that thrives on unity and pride, not prejudice.

British women have a history of resistance against oppressive ideologies and will continue to stand up for equality and human rights, regardless of race, religion, or background. While Tommy Robinson claims to represent the nation, the Women’s Block spoke for conscience on that day, standing on the right side of history.
