England expressed frustration over a mistake that allowed Alex Carey to escape a dismissal at the Adelaide Oval due to a human error. Carey scored a crucial 106 runs, leading Australia to finish day one of the third Ashes Test at 326-8, although he should have been out at 72.

During the match, Carey seemed to have edged a delivery by Josh Tongue to Jamie Smith when Australia was at 245-6. Despite England’s appeal, umpire Ahsan Raza ruled it not out, prompting Ben Stokes to request a review. The review indicated a spike on the ‘Snicko’ technology but slightly before the ball contacted the bat, leading TV umpire Chris Gaffaney to uphold the on-field decision.

England was puzzled and upset by this decision, especially given a similar incident involving Jamie Smith in the first Test at Perth. It was later revealed that the technology operator mistakenly used audio from the wrong stump mic, causing a mismatch between the sound and visuals.

Following the match, Carey acknowledged that he had made contact with the ball and commented on the situation. England’s bowling coach, David Saker, hinted that they might raise concerns with match referee Jeff Crowe regarding the ongoing issues with the ‘Snicko’ technology during the series.

The incident sparked confusion among fans and commentators, with former England captain Michael Vaughan expressing surprise at the contradictory evidence presented by the replay. The use of ‘Snicko’ technology has been a topic of discussion throughout the series, with calls for improvement and alignment with TV footage.
