A 21-year-old man has tragically died after a tree fell onto his home during a storm while he slept, authorities said.
Powerful thunderstorms raced across portions of the Ohio Valley on Monday, producing large hail and strong wind gusts that knocked out power lines, damaged homes and vehicles and snapped trees like twigs. The severe weather fired up on Monday afternoon, slamming cities in Ohio and West Virginia as a cold front plowed through the region.
At around 11.15am local time on Tuesday, April 15 Noah Hall, 21, was in bed inside his room on the upstairs level of the divided residence when a massive tree crashed through the roof of the home during a violent storm. Three other residents who live downstairs were not present at the time of the shocking incident, reports PEOPLE.
Multiple agencies, including the Barberton Fire Department and Summit County Special Operations rescue team, rushed to the home in Barberton, a suburb of Akron, in Ohio. But, sadly the Kentucky native was pronounced dead, CBS affiliate WOIO-TV reported.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help his loved ones fund a funeral and burial service. The fundraiser said Noah had relocated to the area to pursue work. He was on a management track at a local Wendy’s, the fundraiser said. It read: “His mum and sisters, as well as the Norton Wendys crew hope he’s at complete and everlasting peace.
“We all miss our Noah. His humor flooded rooms and no matter what kind of day you were having, he knew how to make it better. He was hard working and determined for better. He was the person that you could go to for anything and he’d sit and listen.
“Despite that the world was cruel to him, he didn’t have a single evil bone in his body. Please help with whatever you can. We’re raising money for Noah to have a proper funeral and burial. He deserves it!”
On the same day, another Ohio home was hit by a tragic event – five people, including three children, have been found dead inside a home as a result of suspected carbon monoxide exposure. At around 10.44am on Tuesday, April 15 emergency services received a call of five unresponsive individuals inside a residence on State Route 7 South in Clay Township in Ohio. When officers arrived they tragically found all five individuals unresponsive at the property.
The two adult victims have now been identified as Brian A. Doss, 36, and Lora Schuman, 35, but police have not disclosed the names or ages of the three children who died. Relatives of the victims told WCHS they suspect a generator was left running inside the home following storms that caused a power outage earlier in the week.
Donna McGuire, the sister of Schuman, told WOWK that the three children who perished were “happy-go-lucky” and that the oldest child was almost nine-years-old. “They were good and honest people,” she added about the victims. “They loved their kids, they loved their niece…This is a terrible disaster. We just lost our mum and now I’m gonna have to bury my sister.”
