‘Life changing’ health app helps ‘morbidly obese’ mum shed almost 3 stone

Must read

Losing weight is a multifaceted challenge, demanding not just physical adaptation to change but also facing the mental strain from relentless focus on diet and number-crunching weigh-ins – a combination that could take a toll on mental health and overall happiness.

As a result, people are turning their backs on age-old calorie tracking and confining diets for an innovative health coach app that promotes a more humane method, where well-being of mind and physiology take centre stage. Simple app uses AI to create tailor-made nutrition advice alongside lifestyle tweaks, which have proven central in helping numerous people achieve their weight loss goals.

Jennifer, a mum of two, dropped a formidable 2.8 stone (17.7kg) off her frame in four months, with direction and support from the app reports Edinburgh Live. Reflecting on what sparked her journey, Jennifer said: “After one of our trips last year, we came back home and started going through some photos and I realised just how much I had let myself go.”

“I was absolutely horrified, to say the least. I did have a doctors appointment coming up. I got on the scale for the first time in a long time and realised I was weighing 205lbs, which… jaw to floor, I was mortified. I am only five foot one, so you can imagine.”

Jennifer got the wake-up call she needed during a routine doctor’s visit, as she recounted: “My doctor went ahead and put on my chart that I was now considered morbidly obese, which scared me to death. You hear those words… the word morbid is very, very scary and having other comorbidities coming with that is very, very scary as well. I just decided I’ve got to do something.”

She continued her story saying: “I have tried different kinds of workouts, different routines, different diets, and I don’t stick to them. I was very sceptical from my past experiences and I also had an injury to my left knee. The first couple of days were so hard – I’m a stay-at-home mom, the kids are at home and want to snack all day. I would do the same. I was an emotional eater – if I was depressed, or anxious, I would immediately go to that.”

Jennifer’s journey took a turn when she discovered an ad on social media for Simple, which talked about the virtues of intermittent fasting. She decided to give it a shot, explaining: “With the app it made everything so simple. I check in in the morning, there’s reminders all the time, I can find out when my next fast is, when I should be eating, you get tips on a daily basis, different things that you can swap out.”

She also liked the integrated AI software within the app, adding: “One of my absolute favourite parts of the app is they have an integrated AI software where you can just ask questions. If you go to a restaurant, it takes out all your guessing work.”

Jennifer has lauded the app as ‘life changing,’ attributing her striking 2.8 stone weight loss to it, which took her out of the ‘morbidly obese’ category. Enthused by her experience, she said: “This app has been absolutely life changing for me. It just made everything so simple, I can actually do things I love to do…like a long walk with my kid.”

Simple is currently rolling out a discount code which drops the subscription price from £29.99 down to £17.99 a month. Using the code REACH60 at checkout will input the 60% off this bespoke 28-day workout programme that comes with nifty tracking tools and tailor-made advice covering things like sporadic fasting and wholesome noshing.

The app showcases an AI coach by the name of Avo, dishing out custom meal recommendations to knock up at home, giving precise quantities to prep fresh grub, a concept echoing meal kit delivery favourites such as Gousto or Hello Fresh. User Chris credits the app for his remarkable 20kg shrink-down, especially tipping his hat to these ‘lovable recipes’.

Similarly, Danielle praised Simple for her significant drop of 27.8kg (48lbs), exclaiming: “I give all credit to Simple. Having an AI coach right there, any time I needed, whatever time of day, helped me more than anything else.”

Matt also reaped the benefits when he turned to Simple, losing an impressive 25.8kg (57lbs). He hailed the app as ‘a game-changer’, saying it ‘helped him become consistent’ with his lifestyle changes.

Customers are pleased with the app on Trustpilot, where it enjoys a respectable 4.7-star average rating and more than half the reviews are five stars. A satisfied user called it one of the ‘best fasting apps‘ they’ve tried.

Another user commented on the positive effects: “Since using this app, I’ve noticed better energy levels, improved focus, and even weight loss. The educational content is also a great bonus, helping me understand the science behind fasting.”

A particularly pleased patron dubbed it the ‘best decision they ever made’, sharing: “I finally have a healthy relationship with food, I’ve lost 15 pounds in my first month using this simple app, and it was surprisingly easy!”.

One shared their love for the ‘coach tracker’ feature, but shared how they found the app somewhat challenging to navigate. They said: “I like the coach feature in this and the food logging by scanning or speaking but I find it confusing on how to use it. I feel it would be better to just have a calendar day click on that and have that all there.”

In contrast, another user said: “So helpful, easy to be able to scan meals to show ingredients. I have never stuck to anything so long before, it has now become a way of life.”

Real Simple users who have been compensated for their honest testimonials are featured. Individual results may vary.

One of our own journalists decided to put the Simple app to the test, and you can check out their comprehensive review right here.

While Simple has been lauded for its features, it’s worth noting that there are other apps on the market such as Hevy, which lets you monitor your workouts and is free with in-app purchases. For those looking to keep tabs on their diet, the basic version of MyFitnessPal is also free, although some features require a subscription.
