Tensions appeared to erupt in the Celebrity Big Brother house in scenes that aired on Friday night – leaving viewers torn over a possible bitter feud. Fans of the reality show tuned in at the end of the week for the live eviction – which would see either EastEnders star Patsy Palmer or Olympic hero Daley Thompson given their marching orders.
Highlights from the day before, however, showed the housemates letting down their hair after succeeding in a cat themed task. The household was rewarded with a karaoke party – with a number of songs available for the stars to sing.
But chart-topping star Chesney Hawkes and Love Island star Chris Hughes appeared to clash over picking out the song Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and the Wailers. When Chris started singing the track, Chesney highlighted that Daley had singled the song out as the one he wanted to perform.
Chris took to the stage alongside TOWIE star Ella Rae Wise and announced: “We’re going to sing, Three Little Bird.” But Daley complained: “No you’re not” and Chesney shouted: “No you’re f***ing not!”
Chesney stood up for the Olympian, by challenging Chris over the fact he was singing the track, saying: “We already took that one. Are you going to argue with Daley f***ing Thompson?” Chris then invited Chesney and Daley to join them at the microphones to sing the iconic song. But the other two rejected the offer, and Chesney insisted he was no longer friends with Chris – but later claimed he was joking throughout the argument.
Chris then seemed to fear that Chesney was genuinely annoyed – and it was unclear if he was or not. At one point Chesney appeared to attempt to smooth things over, by asking Chris “are you f***ing eyeballing me” – a reference to a truly explosive argument that erupted between Chris and since ejected Hollywood star, Mickey Rourke.
But Chris failed to acknowledge the in-joke and steamrolled on to ask Chesney if he had been seriously angry. Daley, meanwhile, lamented: “We’ve fallen out over karaoke.”
Viewers, housemates and even Celebrity Big Brother hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best were unsure if the argument had been real or not. Later, Chris took Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd to one side and said: “I thought Chesney and Daley were kicking off.”
But Jack confessed: “Hand on heart, Chesney was one hundred per cent serious.” And AJ and Will subsequently shared their own belief that the One and Only singer had been being serious.
Fans took to X to discuss the argument, with one writing: “I’m not being funny, but I feel really awkward watching Chesney now. Like I understand why he acted that way, but I don’t think it was that serious, nor did he need to be so serious? #CBBUK.”
Another wrote: “But Chesney definitely was being serious….” Some viewers then pointed out that Chris noticed an attempted to lighten the mood, with one writing: “One of my favourite things about this series is how the housemates bring out “are you eyeballing me?” whenever they need to lighten the mood #CBBUK.”
And another typed: “#chesney with “are you f***ing eyeballing me” and #chris misses the joke by talking over him. again #CBBUK.”
Fans now think there could be repercussions the next time the stars head to the Diary Room to nominate. One wrote on X: “I wish I could bet on Chesney and Chris voting for each other next nominations #CBBUK.”
