Celebrity Big Brother viewers have praised Chris Hughes for comforting JoJo Siwa following housemate Mickey Rourke’s vile homophobic remark. Things have been heating up in the house, with Mickey being given a serious warning from show bosses.
He made an unacceptable, homophobic remark towards his housemate JoJo. In the shocking moment, Mickey asks JoJo: “Do you like girls or boys?” After revealing that her partner is non-binary, Mickey responds: “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore.”
Later on, Mickey asks Chris if everyone has to vote one another out of the house. Mickey says “I’m going to vote the lesbian out real quick.” JoJo, who overhears, then says: “That’s homophobic, if that was your reasoning,” while Chris tells Mickey he can’t say that.
After asking JoJo where the smoking area is, Mickey exclaims: “I need a fag.” He then gestures to JoJo and says, “I’m not talking to you.” Once again, Chris pulls him up on his language, as Mickey responds: “I know. I was talking about a cigarette.”
Mickey left the garden and was told off by Big Brother and issued a formal warning over his language. Chris headed over to JoJo where he made sure she was okay.
JoJo thanked him for “having her back”, while the Love Island star insisted he was calling out unacceptable behaviour. As he showed support to JoJo, she became emotional while they shared a hug.
Chris encouraged JoJo to let all her tears out and feel the emotions. Viewers were disgusted by Mickey’s comment and called for Big Brother to issue a much stronger punishment and even boot him off the show.
However, they took time to praise Chris and how he handled the situation. One said: “Chris Hughes is such a sweetheart. You just know his heart is pure.” Another added: “Lovely to see Chris is still the same genuine softie since love island.”
Someone else commented: “Jo Jo has surprised me with the way she has handled the Mickey situation and Chris has sky rocketed in my estimation. Top bloke.”
A fourth wrote: “Jojo and Chris being the most unexpected but most amazing friendship already.” One fan shared: “Respect to chris for not backing down on the issue while everyone else is silent or trying to minimise it for the sake of diffusing it, especially because mickey didn’t even apologise.”
Shortly after the remark, Mickey was called to the Diary Room by Big Brother, and given a stern warning. As Big Brother reads the exchange to Mickey, he was asked if he understands how his language could be offensive to his housemates or the public.
Mickey said: “Yeah I think so. If I was saying it in a nasty kind of way or if I truly meant it,” before being given a formal warning. He was then told that further language or behaviour of this nature could lead to him being removed from the Big Brother house.
It’s not the first time the actor has caused controversy during his time in the house. Mickey made viewers feel uncomfortable during his entrance on Monday night, as he appeared to briefly gyrate against host AJ Odudu before eyeing her up and down during his introduction to the crowd.
