Stacey Solomon has stuck to her guns after airing moments of major tension on her new show. The X Factor star has faced criticism for showing the truth behind her marriage to Joe Swash, but thinks that being truthful is the best thing for both their relationship and viewers at home.
Stacey and Joe debuted on the BBC on April 1, and just a week on has already whipped up plenty of drama. After being caught having a blazing row at a train station in November, the new series has also caught the couple’s fallouts behind closed doors.
The first episode saw Loose Women star Stacey in tears after Joe turned up five hours late from a fishing trip with his pals and left her at home trying to host a meeting while looking after the kids, while tonight’s episode will feature yet another fight.
According to insiders, Joe is “really not happy” with how he’s presented and feels “mugged off” by being shown in a bad light – but Stacey thinks there could be a silver lining to making him face up to his actions.
Talking to Closer, an insider shared: “Stacey didn’t intentionally go out to put a negative spotlight on her marriage, she was just sharing how it is, nothing deeper than that. But now it’s out there it’s been good for Joe to see how things really are.”
They added that Stacey had been speaking to her pals about how EastEnders star Joe needed to “pull his socks up,” and that she didn’t have any regrets about keeping things real in front of the cameras.
“Shedding light on Joe’s bad timekeeping is something she says other women will relate to and appreciate,” the source said of Stacey’s motivation. “Their dynamics are more relatable now more than ever, with more men working from home.”
Stacey and Joe highlights just how chaotic things can be at the couple’s Essex home, Pickle Cottage, as they parent their blended family of six children – three of whom they share while Stacey has two from a prior relationship and Joe has one older son.
Considering the arguments, many fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say that Stacey has too much on her hands and Joe needs to pick up the slack.
Following the first episode, one fan raged on the platform: “Gosh Joe Swash is not coming across well! He really takes @StaceySolomon for granted!”
A second viewer added: “It’s impossible to dislike Joe Swash. But his utterly chaotic approach to looking after five kids turns this reality show into a nightmarishly stressful watch.”
“Stacey needs a medal to live with Joe,” said a third fan, while another argued that they loved how honest the show was, gushing: “I already love them & after this I love them even more.”
