Rebecca Gayheart has spoken out about her relationship with Eric Dane after she filed to dismiss her 2018 divorce from the Grey’s Anatomy star. It comes after he recently bravely opened up about his recent ALS diagnosis.
The Beverley Hills, 90210 actress called them the “best of friends” and insisted that they were “great co-parents” as they were very close with one another. The couple share Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, together. “We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well,” she continued to E! News.
She added that she found it important for them not to see their relationship as a “failure”, insisting it was a “huge success”. Rebecca continued: “We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that’s a successful relationship, and that’s how we look at it.”
Rumours of a reconciliation between the actress, 53, and actor, 52, had been floating around over the last few years after going on a number of family trips together with their daughters. However, speculation has dimmed after he was seen having lunch with Priya Jain in LA in November.
It comes as Eric spoke out about his ALS diagnosis, revealing is continuing to pursue work – with filming for the latest season of Euphoria starting next week. He said: “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
According to the NHS, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is the most common type of motor neurone disease (MND). Early symptoms include muscle weakness in the arms and legs that can cause you to trip and drop things. While there is no cure for the condition, a medicine called riluzole can help slow down its progression.
MND affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord called motor neurones, which tell your muscles what to do. It is unclear why this happens, but the NHS suggests that it is thought that a combination of certain genes and other factors are involved.
As the condition gets worse, those with MND may experience problems with breathing, swallowing and speaking, undergo changes in their mood and personality and be unable to walk or move.
Eric, who was in Bad Boys: Ride or Die last year, has received a flood of messages of support on social media since his exclusive interview with People concerning his health journey.
The news of Eric’s diagnosis has hit fans hard, particularly given the actor’s popularity which soared after his chillingly brilliant portrayal of the manipulative business tycoon Cal Jacobs in Euphoria.
And on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, fans expressed deep sorrow.
Devastated remarks circled the internet with one fan posting: “Eric Dane being diagnosed with als ruined my week…” while another sent out a heartfelt message saying: “Gutted to hear about Eric Dane. Sending him and all those that love him strength.”
