After over a decade of conducting interviews with movie stars, musicians, and athletes over some fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the well-known YouTube talk show “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is shutting down the show.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her gratitude to her followers for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes. She described the show as her personal romantic comedy and shared her love for creating captivating stories for her audience.
Dimoldenberg initiated the show 12 years ago by interviewing musicians in Britain’s underground rap scene. Over time, she expanded her guest list to include celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, accumulating nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” features a straightforward format where Dimoldenberg meets a celebrity at a fried chicken shop in London for a casual date and poses a mix of flirty, funny, and sometimes awkward questions. The interactions often result in playful banter akin to a first date rather than a conventional talk show interview.
Among her numerous interviews are some notable Canadians, such as Ryan Reynolds, who received a gentle correction from Dimoldenberg regarding his wife Blake Lively’s character on “Gossip Girl.” The show has also welcomed guests like Shania Twain, who disclosed during her 2023 appearance that she had never met Brad Pitt despite referencing him in her song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
Dimoldenberg’s YouTube success has opened doors beyond the chicken shop, leading to opportunities like covering the Oscars red carpet this year, where she interviewed Canadian actor Hudson Williams. While her future plans post “Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, she is reportedly set to develop a young adult drama series for the BBC.
In her farewell message on Instagram, Dimoldenberg hinted at a few final dates before concluding the show permanently.
