Markham is set to host the NTT IndyCar Series this weekend for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy, bringing exhilarating motorsports action to the city. While IndyCar has a longstanding history in Toronto, this will be the first time the race takes place outside the city on a brand-new track layout.
The 3.52-kilometer, 12-turn course will weave through various locations, including the Unionville GO station grounds, York University Markham Campus, and the Markham Pan Am Centre. To assist attendees in reaching the track, options include utilizing GO Transit, York Region Transit, or driving via Highway 407 with parking available west of the event grounds.
Metrolinx is enhancing Stouffville Line services to accommodate racegoers, introducing additional trips from Union Station to Unionville GO and vice versa on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. York Region Transit is also ramping up its services, while shuttle services from designated parking lots to the event site will be provided by Markham.
Residents in Markham have faced temporary inconveniences due to track construction, including limited parking at Unionville GO and road closures affecting Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard until Monday morning. Some road closures will persist until August 27 for track dismantling.
IndyCar enthusiasts can anticipate an exciting race day, with Spaniard Alex Palou leading the championship standings and considered a top contender for victory. Other notable drivers to watch include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay. Local talents like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also showcase their skills in support series races.
