The recall pertains to certain sets of mugs featuring ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Harry Potter, Sponge Bob, and South Park’ characters sold by the retailer. These items are believed to pose a health risk as their coating may release excessive levels of heavy metals.
The Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has raised an alert explaining that the mugs fail to meet safety standards for materials intended for contact with food. The coating on these mugs has been found to exceed safe limits for heavy metal release, potentially endangering consumer health.
The recall specifically targets mugs with six specific product codes, which can be found on price tags or receipts. Consumers affected by the recall can return the items to a store for a full refund or replacement.
TK Maxx’s website urges customers who have purchased the affected products to stop using them immediately and return them to any TK Maxx or Homesense store.
