This morning, UKHSA stated, “Diarrhoea and vomiting can be unpleasant for everyone. In case of an occurrence, here are steps to minimize transmission.”
Diarrhoea and vomiting are common symptoms that can impact individuals of all age groups, including children and infants. Typically stemming from a stomach bug, these issues can often be handled at home, with recovery generally spanning a few days.
Nevertheless, UKHSA emphasized the importance of individuals staying ‘at home for 48 hours’ post-symptom relief. This caution is warranted as illnesses like gastroenteritis can remain contagious even after apparent recovery, posing a risk of transmission to others.
Individuals experiencing high temperatures, headaches, and muscle soreness along with diarrhoea and/or vomiting should refrain from leaving home. Advice from the NHS echoes this guidance, recommending, “Stay home from school or work until you have been symptom-free for at least two days.”
