A man suspected of infidelity stands accused of fatally slashing his wife and mother-in-law’s throats before enlisting his mistress to eliminate evidence. The accused, Howard Wang, aged 43, faces charges for the murders of his wife, Linlin Guo, and her mother, Beimin Cheng, at their residence in Walnut Creek, California. During the incident, the couple’s eight-year-old twin daughters were reportedly present.
Following the gruesome act of cutting the victims’ throats, Howard Wang purportedly discharged two gunshots, falsely claiming self-defense against an intruder. Subsequently, his mistress, Yan Wang, aged 45 (unrelated), has been charged with accessory to the crime, burglary, and tampering with evidence. It is alleged that she attempted to obstruct justice by stealing and destroying two mobile phones to impede the investigation.
During a court hearing after Howard Wang’s arrest on September 23, a confrontation ensued when Yan Wang appeared in court and engaged in a scuffle with a member of the victims’ family, prompting sheriff’s deputies to intervene. Yan Wang was arrested by Walnut Creek Police the next day and detained on September 29. The Contra Costa District Attorney’s office disclosed that she was believed to have a romantic relationship with Howard. If convicted, Howard Wang could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Records indicate that Howard Wang initiated divorce proceedings in January 2024 but withdrew the case in August of the same year, allegedly threatening his wife around the time of withdrawal. District Attorney Diana Becton emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “This case underscores the severe consequences of domestic violence, and our office will pursue justice diligently and promptly.”
Previously, the Walnut Creek Police Department reported responding to a disturbance call on September 18, 2025, which led to the discovery of the two deceased women at the residence. Howard Wang, a known acquaintance of the victims, was taken into custody following the initial investigation. Subsequently, on September 24, 2025, Yan Wang, Howard’s girlfriend, was arrested for being an accessory after the fact and is currently detained without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility in Oakland.
