After years of struggling with weight loss and battling what she calls ‘toxic diet culture,’ a 50-year-old woman, Naomi Holbrook, has achieved a remarkable weight loss of 70lbs. Naomi, from Hove, East Sussex, shared that her relationship with food became troubled and emotionally driven, especially after the loss of her mother during her teenage years.
For over three decades, Naomi felt trapped in a cycle of shame and deprivation, constantly battling with thoughts of food and her appearance. She admitted to secretly eating and binge eating from a young age, leading to a lifelong struggle with her weight. Despite trying various diets, she found herself stuck in a pattern of food obsession and self-blame.
Approaching her 40s, Naomi realized that a drastic change was necessary. Tired of restrictive diets and calorie counting, she developed her own SMART formula focusing on sleep, mindful nutrition, activity, rest, and self-care. By prioritizing sustainable lifestyle changes over strict rules, Naomi began to heal her relationship with food and herself.
Through gradual steps, including moving her body joyfully and setting boundaries, Naomi saw significant improvements in her physical and mental well-being. She emphasized the importance of unlearning toxic diet culture and reshaping her identity to break free from food control. This transformation not only resulted in a physical change from size 20 to size 12 but also brought her a newfound sense of freedom and peace.
Inspired by her journey, Naomi decided to become a weight loss coach, aiming to help other women achieve similar transformations. She highlighted the need for reframing thoughts around weight, emphasizing that weight gain is often a symptom of deeper issues like people-pleasing, lack of boundaries, and emotional eating. Naomi’s mission is to guide women towards healthier relationships with food and themselves, as detailed in her book ‘Your Weight is Not The Problem.’
