Luke Littler shared that a remark from Ricardo Pietreczko motivated him to defeat the German 10-6 and secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Players Championship Finals. Despite falling behind 3-1 to Pietreczko, Littler, also known as ‘The Nuke,’ staged a comeback, winning nine out of the next 12 legs with a stellar average to advance to the last eight in Minehead.

During the interval when the score was tied at five each, Pietreczko’s comment served as a catalyst for Littler’s resurgence. Reflecting on the match, Littler recounted, “We came back on at 5-5 and he said, before the caller returned on stage, ‘I was only looking forward to getting one leg and now I’ve got five.’ I told myself, ‘why say that?’ internally affirming that he would win the game, which led to his confident play and celebratory gestures.”

The young sensation, born in 2007, who recently claimed the world No.1 title after winning the Grand Slam, showcased an impressive performance with an average of 102.67 and six 180s. He replicated a contentious 121 finish from the previous season, sealing it with a bull, treble 7, bull combination.

Assessing his performance, Littler expressed, “I am never satisfied when I am trailing; at 3-2 down, I managed to level at five-all and then pushed forward.” Despite acknowledging some shortcomings in his doubles play, he remained optimistic about refining his skills for the upcoming matches.

Littler is set to face world No.9 Chris Dobey in the quarter-final clash, with a potential semi-final encounter against the victor of the Gerwyn Price versus Daryl Gurney match. Additionally, Nathan Aspinall and Josh Rock will compete in the third last eight tie, while James Wade and Jermaine Wattimena will conclude the afternoon session at the Players Championship Finals.
