Jay Slater’s father, deeply saddened by his son’s passing, shared a poignant desire he had for Jay’s funeral. Jay, only 19 years old, met a tragic end in Tenerife last year.
Following his attendance at a festival with friends Lucy Law, Brad Hargreaves, and Brandon Hodgson, Jay went missing on June 27. His body was discovered in Tenerife’s Parque Rural de Teno on July 15, 2024, after a month-long search.
After leaving the RG festival in Playa de las Americas, Jay traveled to an Airbnb in the national park with two men, a distance of 22 miles from his initial location. A friend of Jay’s mentioned that the return journey to their lodging would have been a short 15-minute drive or a strenuous 14-hour walk.
When Jay disappeared, he was clad in a grey T-shirt with a green stripe and wore trainers for his outing on the Spanish island. In a recent Channel 4 documentary, Jay’s father, Warren, disclosed his emotional final wish for his son.
While sorting through Jay’s belongings in the family garage, which included his footballs, Warren expressed his wish for Jay to be laid to rest in the outfit he was found in. Warren stated that it was to dispel any doubts and confirm that Jay had indeed worn those items.
The documentary also featured Jay’s mother, Debbie, examining the bag found with him when he passed away. Debbie, sitting in Jay’s teenage bedroom, revealed her reluctance to unpack his belongings even a year later, still holding onto his scent.
Delicately unpacking the bag’s contents, Debbie revealed items that shed light on Jay’s final night, such as his driving license, aftershave bottle, and lighters. She emphasized the absence of knives, drugs, or expensive watches, indicating a simple collection of personal effects.
Debbie also expressed her disappointment at the leakage of Jay’s toxicology report, which disclosed traces of MDMA and cocaine in his system. However, she clarified that these substances did not contribute to his death, acknowledging the challenges of his passing.
The Channel 4 documentary further presented previously unreleased audio recordings, unsent messages, and insights into the Slater family’s ongoing quest for answers surrounding Jay’s fate.
