BT has introduced a new method for internet access that not only connects devices but also enhances security measures. The upcoming Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router from BT in the UK offers improved connectivity and includes advanced security features.
This innovative technology within the router can automatically identify harmful websites, alerting users to potential malware threats before any damage occurs. Additionally, it is equipped to detect and block suspicious activities by hackers attempting to access smart home devices like internet-connected cameras.
Users can conveniently monitor any identified threats through the Hub Threat Protect feature on the MyBT app. These enhancements aim to bolster online security for households and preempt cyberattacks effectively.
In addition to security, the Smart Hub 3 focuses on performance optimization. It supports Complete Wi-Fi Plus, which extends signal coverage throughout the home, reducing weak signal areas or dead zones.
The Smart Hub 3 boasts a sleek and minimalistic design with a small BT logo at its center, as revealed in images from Mirror Online. Notably, the router supports Wi-Fi 6 technology rather than the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard featured in some competitor devices like EE routers.
While Wi-Fi 7 offers faster speeds, lower latency, and enhanced reliability, many current devices do not yet support it. Therefore, Wi-Fi 6 remains more than sufficient for most households, representing a significant upgrade from older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 equipment.
To obtain this advanced router, BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to new customers, with potential eligibility for existing users to upgrade as well.
Wi-Fi 6 has already enhanced wireless performance by boosting speed, efficiency, and capacity compared to Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4. On the other hand, Wi-Fi 7 takes it a step further with wider 320 MHz channels, decreased latency, and even higher speeds, catering especially to gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home setups.
For most users today, Wi-Fi 6 remains an excellent choice, while Wi-Fi 7 offers a more future-proof solution in terms of wireless connectivity.
