Welsh darts player Gerwyn Price suffered a surprising defeat in the second round of the World Darts Championship at the hands of Wesley Plaisier from the Netherlands. Plaisier, known for his career-best performance, outplayed Price at Alexandra Palace.

Plaisier, who had never advanced beyond the second round at Alexandra Palace, displayed exceptional composure and precision against the favored “the Iceman.” Despite Price’s previous World Champion title, Plaisier dominated the match by hitting nine out of 16 double attempts, while Price managed to win only four legs throughout the encounter.

Price’s unexpected loss not only ended his championship run but also paved the way for underdog Luke Littler, who was set to face Price in the quarter-finals. With several seeded players like Joe Cullen, Chris Dobey, and Ryan Joyce also exiting the tournament in the second round, Price’s departure as the number nine seed added to the tournament’s surprises.

Plaisier’s exceptional performance, highlighted by a remarkable 130 checkout early in the match, set the tone for his victory. Despite Price’s strong efforts in the final set, Plaisier maintained his dominance, ultimately clinching the match with a composed finish.

As the tournament progresses, Littler, the 18-year-old contender, faces Welsh star David Davies, with the prospect of challenging Mensur Suljovic if he advances to the next round. The World Darts Championship, commencing on December 11, offers fans exclusive live coverage of every match through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
