Chantelle Swaby, formerly of Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who previously played for AFC Toronto in the NSL, have joined the team. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller praised both players for their unique strengths and contributions to the team’s playoff aspirations.
Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from various leagues, including the National Women’s Soccer League and the top divisions in Scotland and France. Her composure and vocal leadership on the field are expected to be valuable assets for the Rise. Hansen, 26, expressed her excitement at returning home to Vancouver, where she looks forward to playing in front of a supportive crowd and being close to her family.
The team’s roster changes followed the retirement of Mariah Lee, a veteran forward who decided to pursue law school in New York. Additionally, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. With a playoff spot within reach, the Vancouver Rise (5-9-1) are determined to close the gap on Halifax (6-6-3), currently holding the fourth playoff position.
