A significant change is on the horizon for phone users in the UK, as traditional copper landlines are gradually being phased out in favor of Digital Voice technology. This transition, set to take effect from January 2027, is aimed at enhancing communication reliability and introducing new features like clearer conversations and call forwarding to smartphones.

To prepare for this shift, BT is launching a campaign led by Clare Balding to urge homeowners to ensure their landlines are ready for the digital era. Research has shown that many individuals tend to delay essential tasks assuming that if things are functioning, there is no urgency to act promptly.

Customers are assured that they are likely to retain their existing phone numbers, and costs are expected to remain unchanged during the switch. Most households will simply need to connect their current phones to their broadband hubs instead of the traditional wall sockets, with minimal need for engineer visits.

Digital Voice, BT’s latest home phone service, leverages broadband technology to offer enhanced features like Multi Call and call diversion to mobile phones. The service promises improved call quality and modern conveniences, requiring compatible Digital Home phones for optimal use.

BT emphasizes the importance of responding promptly to service provider communications to avoid any disruptions in essential connections. Customers with special needs, such as users of telecare devices, are encouraged to notify their providers for appropriate support arrangements.

The transition to Digital Voice represents a significant upgrade to the UK’s communication infrastructure, ensuring a more reliable and secure technology environment for all users. By embracing this change, individuals can benefit from enhanced services and stay connected with ease.
