Evans’ frustration peaked when he was left out of the doubles lineup at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, where he had to solely participate in singles matches while his teammates, Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury, took on the doubles role. Despite expressing his desire to compete in the doubles matches, Evans remained puzzled by his continuous omission and contemplated his future involvement in the team.
In the subsequent year, Evans achieved his goal of playing in the doubles event alongside Skupski, securing a victory during the match against Colombia. Although Evans faced defeat in his singles match, Great Britain managed to advance to the Davis Cup Finals with a 3-1 win. Unfortunately, Evans missed the 2023 finale due to an injury.
Great Britain’s absence in the 2025 Davis Cup Finals followed their defeat to Japan in the initial qualifying round. Italy, led by Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli, advanced to the semi-finals after overcoming Austria.
