Los Angeles City Hall underwent an evacuation following a tense confrontation when a vehicle collided with the building’s front steps. The incident took place around 4pm local time on Spring Street, as per the Los Angeles Police Department. Authorities reported a potential car fire at the scene, with the suspect barricaded inside the vehicle. Police were trying to establish communication with the suspect by 5 p.m.

Mayor Karen Bass provided an update stating the ongoing evacuation out of caution. She praised the first responders and assured continued monitoring of the situation. The suspect has been taken into custody, and the LAPD bomb squad is on-site, as confirmed in a recent Facebook post by the Mayor of LA.

California Highway Patrol deployed units to close off the area’s off-ramps. The suspect, demanding a reporter with a camera at the scene, remains unidentified. LAPD mentioned no weapons or devices inside the vehicle. Aerial footage revealed the suspect displaying handwritten signs in the car, expressing a plea for help and a reluctance to cause harm.

Reports indicate the suspect, seemingly holding an oxygen tank, was alone in the vehicle during the incident, which resulted in no reported injuries in the deserted area.
