He also cautioned about economic repercussions for any nation supporting Tehran or extending any form of assistance to Iran. “ANY country permitting its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to offer any form of support to Iran will face SIGNIFICANT Economic Repercussions,” Trump expressed on social media. Without mentioning a specific plan of action against such a nation or naming any country, he emphasized, “Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies — It all must cease IMMEDIATELY. You know who you are.”
The ongoing six-month conflict has resulted in numerous casualties, involving countries across the Gulf region. Iran’s demonstrated ability to control shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for approximately a fifth of the world’s traded oil before February, has rattled global markets. Despite ceasefire agreements announced by the U.S. and Iran in April and June to restore shipping flow through Hormuz, aimed at resolving the conflict, both agreements swiftly collapsed, even as Israel largely withdrew from the conflict it initiated alongside the U.S. in February.

China, which purchases over 80% of Iran’s oil shipments according to 2025 data from analytics firm Kpler, poses a challenge for the U.S. to engage in further economic confrontations due to potential repercussions, given China’s crucial role as a major exporter to the U.S., including vital rare-earth minerals.
Mohammad Mokhber, an advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, stated on Tuesday that Iran is willing to engage in dialogue with the U.S., emphasizing that negotiations are not synonymous with surrender. Mokhber, as reported by the semi-official Fars news agency, asserted that Iran’s determination remains unbroken despite military pressure and sanctions. Trump indicated on Tuesday that no talks were ongoing with Iran, while a day earlier, Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and special envoy, expressed optimism, suggesting that talks with Iran were ongoing and possibly more intense than before.
