Actor Steve Martin has had to cancel his upcoming performances unexpectedly due to illness. The 80-year-old star of “Only Murders” was set to appear on stage alongside Martin Short, but had to announce the unfortunate news of the postponement. The duo shared on social media that their scheduled shows in Virginia Beach and Richmond had to be canceled at The Dome and Allianz Amphitheater at the Riverfront, respectively.

The cancellation was prompted by Steve’s positive COVID-19 test result, preventing him from proceeding with the show as planned. In an apologetic message, Steve expressed his regret to the Virginia Beach and Richmond audiences, stating that the current circumstances did not allow for the performances to go on.

Support and well wishes poured in from friends and fans, with Rita Wilson and Brad Garrett among those sending messages of encouragement. Despite the disappointment, one user humorously mentioned sending Steve’s COVID-19 test picture to work as an excuse to go boating on Monday.

This is not the first time the duo has had to cancel shows due to COVID-19. In February, they faced a similar situation when Martin contracted the virus after attending the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary special. Steve jokingly attributed the situation to Martin sharing a kiss with Maya Rudolph at the event.

In addition to their live performances, Steve and Martin have recently collaborated on the television series “Only Murders In The Building.” The show has garnered attention for its latest episode introducing new guest stars, including Selena Gomez, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, and Renée Zellweger, in a murder investigation storyline.
