Sky has introduced two new smart home plans in the UK that include internet-connected cameras and cloud recordings starting at just £5 per month. These plans aim to compete with popular home security devices like Ring doorbells and Google’s Nest system. According to Sky, consumers could save over £100 by opting for their plans instead of buying a Ring system through Amazon.
The first option, priced at £5 per month with a £15 upfront fee, includes a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime. This package offers features such as full HD video recording, instant alerts to your phone, customisable activity zones, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud video storage.
For those seeking additional security measures, there is the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+, priced at £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee. This package includes an indoor camera and extra app features like scheduled arming and automatic arm modes.
Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, stated that the goal of Sky Smart Home is to provide high-quality smart technology that is user-friendly, easy to manage, and affordable. The new plans are part of Sky’s strategy to make their home security devices more accessible to a wider audience. Previously, Sky primarily offered Protect Smart Home Insurance, which bundled cameras and alarms. These latest plans now allow customers to purchase Sky Smart Home products as standalone services for the first time.
In comparison, Amazon currently sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, with an additional cost for cloud recording access through a Ring Protect subscription starting at £4.99 per month.
