A woman recently shared how she underwent surgery to intentionally fracture her ribs in order to reshape her waistline. This procedure, known as RibXcar or rib remodelling, is a minimally invasive technique aimed at enhancing waistline definition without removing ribs.

While RibXcar is gaining popularity as a new approach to body contouring, there are potential risks involved, such as chronic pain, visible scars, an unnatural appearance, and a compromised rib function. Following the surgery, patients are required to wear a tight corset for three months to control the degree of waistline reduction, with potential results of up to five inches lost during this period. It is advised for individuals to thoroughly research and seek certified plastic surgeons for such procedures.

In an effort to advocate for safer cosmetic practices, the Daily Mirror launched a campaign in November 2024 to regulate cosmetic surgery and discourage risky procedures like “medical tourism.” The campaign supports stricter regulations and promotes patient safety to prevent potential harm.

The woman, identified as Natalie Y, who underwent the rib reshaping surgery, expressed her satisfaction with the results. Natalie, who works as a medical assistant for a plastic surgeon in New York, decided to undergo the procedure after struggling with excess fat in her flanks and upper back. She sought to achieve an hourglass figure by contouring her ribs through the surgery, as liposuction alone would not provide the desired results.

Despite initial shock from friends, Natalie proceeded with the surgery under the care of Dr. Thomas Sterry, who had previously performed the procedure in Peru. The cost of the treatment, starting from $9,900 (£7,459) plus additional expenses for liposuction, did not deter Natalie, who now feels like a “new person” with increased confidence and a more defined waistline.
