McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing discontent over the soaring price of a hash brown at certain restaurants, with recent reports indicating it has nearly hit £2. A viral post showcasing a snapshot of a McDonald’s menu board displays the hash brown priced at £1.99 in that specific eatery, sparking outrage among patrons. The post, garnering over 459,000 views, accompanied by the caption “£2 for a single hash brown. We’re calling it quits,” has drawn a wave of comments from disappointed customers. Responding to the escalating price, one individual mentioned, “It’s becoming outrageous, I rarely visit, but it used to be a budget-friendly choice.” Another remarked, “For that price, you might as well get the sausage sandwich.” A third simply stated, “Crazy.”

Additionally, a separate comment read, “Those hash browns are truly fantastic, but £2 is just too much.” Another reminisced, “I recall when they were priced at 59p.”

In response to the situation, a McDonald’s representative clarified that many of their outlets are franchised, granting them the autonomy to set prices independently. They emphasized the commitment to delivering a quality dining experience and excellent value for customers, despite potential price variations.

This development follows McDonald’s announcement of impending changes to the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program, where the points required to redeem free items will increase. Currently, items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets demand 5,500 points. However, from March 17 onwards, the redemption threshold for these items will rise to 6,500 points. Customers earn 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Furthermore, the point requirements for various items will also see an increase. For instance, the threshold for a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will elevate from 1,500 points to 2,000 points. Similarly, items like a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will now need 3,500 points, up from the previous 2,500 points. Moreover, a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich will require 5,000 points instead of the previous 4,000 points.

A spokesperson from McDonald’s attributed the loyalty scheme alterations to the escalation in food and supply costs. They clarified that while the points requirement has been adjusted to align with cost increases, the revamped program now offers popular items like Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and the new Sausage Sandwich for redemption, expanding choices for customers.
