Police have provided a significant update following an incident where a woman was seemingly abducted outside her residence in Wichita, Kansas. The incident, captured on a doorbell camera, showed the woman being forcefully taken by a man around 2 am on Sunday. Subsequently, a 22-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with the occurrence, which authorities have linked to alleged domestic violence.
Footage from the doorbell camera depicted the 35-year-old woman screaming as she was seized from behind while wearing a black top and shorts. The man overpowered her near the front door before dragging her out of the camera’s view. The Wichita Police Department (WPD) confirmed on Tuesday that the woman had been found unharmed.
According to the police, the investigation indicates that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between the woman and her boyfriend, with no significant injuries reported. Reassuring the public, law enforcement stated there is no ongoing threat to the general populace. A spokesperson mentioned the arrest of the male suspect by officers from the Domestic Intervention and Violence Reduction team (DIVRT). The suspect faces charges including aggravated battery strangulation, two counts of domestic simple battery, and criminal restraint.
The case details will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for potential formal charges. Prior to the woman’s rescue and the boyfriend’s arrest, a $2,000 (£1,496) reward had been offered by the police. The WPD expressed gratitude to the public for sharing the video that aided in identifying the woman, leading her to contact the authorities.
The incident has stirred concern among neighbors, prompting discussions about past occurrences. Resident Angelica Verduzco voiced her apprehensions, emphasizing the dangers posed by such incidents.
