December typically proves to be a costly month with the festive season in full swing. However, aside from Christmas expenses, there are important financial events on the horizon that could impact your finances.

Some households are set to receive a Christmas bonus payment, and updates on inflation and interest rates are also scheduled for release.

Various winter assistance programs, such as Cold Weather Payments and the Warm Home Discount, will extend into December, providing essential support to those in need.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is gearing up to distribute its annual tax-free Christmas bonus of £10 to eligible households. This bonus, which does not affect other benefits, is expected to reach recipients by January 1.

Inflation data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) will be unveiled on December 17, shedding light on price fluctuations. Concurrently, the Bank of England will announce its next interest rates decision on December 18, with the current rate standing at 4%.

Due to the upcoming Christmas and New Year bank holidays, benefit payments for thousands will be processed earlier next month. Beneficiaries due payments on Christmas and Boxing Day can anticipate receiving them a day earlier.

Self-assessment taxpayers seeking to settle their tax dues through their PAYE tax code must file their online returns by December 30. This option is available for taxpayers with tax bills under £3,000 who already pay tax through PAYE.

Throughout December, support schemes like Cold Weather Payments, Winter Fuel Payments, and the Warm Home Discount will continue to assist households facing financial challenges.
