Two Delta passenger planes collided at a major international airport, causing one jet’s wing to be ripped off and resulting in at least one person being injured. The incident occurred at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday night when two CRJ-900 regional jets, both operated by Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air, clipped each other while taxiing at low speed. One aircraft, preparing to depart to Roanoke, Virginia, collided with the fuselage of an aircraft arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, according to Delta.
Witnesses observed one plane with a torn wing, the other with a visibly dented nose, and passengers and crew members stranded as emergency vehicles responded to the scene. A passenger described the experience as “absolutely smashed,” stating that the collision was jarring and caused chaos among passengers.
A flight attendant sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, as reported by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, while there were no reports of injured passengers, according to the airline. Delta assured that the airport’s operations were not expected to be significantly impacted and expressed apologies to affected customers, emphasizing the priority of safety.
In a separate incident, an easyJet plane narrowly avoided crashing into another airliner by a distance of “within 10ft” during takeoff preparations at Nice Côte d’Azur airport in France. The incident involved an incoming Nouvelair jet attempting to land on the wrong runway, prompting an urgent investigation. French authorities, including the transport minister, Philippe Tabarot, ordered an immediate inquiry into the near collision between the Nouvelair and easyJet aircraft at France’s third busiest airport, which occurred during heavy rain.
