Jamie Laing has expressed regret and offered an apology to Spencer Matthews after Spencer revealed feeling hurt and confused for being excluded from Jamie’s wedding guest list. The two had developed a strong bond during their time on Made in Chelsea, with Jamie even officiating Spencer’s televised wedding ceremony.
Despite their close relationship, Spencer was noticeably absent from Jamie’s London wedding in 2023, which took place a month before their second ceremony in Spain. This exclusion had previously upset Spencer, who admitted feeling disappointed about not being part of the celebrations.
The situation led to a heart-to-heart discussion between the two friends as their friendship started to deteriorate, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. The rift even led to Spencer missing Jamie’s Ultra Marathon challenge, an event organized for Comic Relief.
During an episode of Jamie’s Great Company podcast, Spencer shared his feelings of hurt and confusion over being left out of the wedding guest list. He admitted that initially, he tried to dismiss the issue, but eventually realized that the snub did matter to him deeply. Jamie, 36, later disclosed that the reason for excluding Spencer was due to his wife Sophie’s anxiety surrounding the wedding.
Jamie explained that Sophie was struggling with anxiety about the wedding and preferred a more intimate ceremony, which influenced his decision not to invite Spencer. Concerned that Spencer might not be comfortable attending without having participated in the stag-do, Jamie chose not to extend an invitation to his friend from Made in Chelsea.
Spencer, who has battled alcoholism, expressed that he would have liked to attend the wedding but acknowledged that stag-dos were not his preference. Jamie suggested that Spencer’s absence from the stag-do could have helped him avoid the temptation to drink.
Despite the misunderstanding, Jamie offered a sincere apology to Spencer, admitting his mistake in not communicating effectively and focusing too much on his own emotions. Spencer reflected on his own actions, mentioning that he should have attended Jamie’s stag-do and abstained from drinking. He also revealed reaching out to Jamie after his Ultra Marathon challenge.
