iPhone users with older devices often encounter performance issues, noticing a gradual slowdown over time, particularly after Apple’s annual iOS update. However, a significant change is on the horizon for 2026.
Recently unveiled at WWDC in California, iOS 27 brings a range of enhancements, including a more intelligent Siri, upgraded Apple Intelligence, improved photo editing tools, and new customization options for the visually striking Liquid Glass appearance. Notably, Apple is promising a substantial performance boost with this release.
According to the tech giant, iOS 27 is expected to accelerate app launches by up to 30%, enhancing the overall user experience. Additionally, photo loading times across devices are projected to improve by 70%, while AirDrop transfers will be up to 80% faster.
The most exciting aspect is that this performance enhancement won’t solely benefit users of the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max. Thanks to a feature known as the CPU scheduler, even older models such as the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 will feel noticeably quicker and more responsive.
The CPU scheduler optimizes device performance by allocating maximum processing power to the actively used app on the screen, rather than distributing power evenly across all loaded functions. This dynamic adjustment enhances user experience by ensuring smoother device operation.
Apple asserts that these improvements will prolong the usability of aging devices, potentially eliminating the need to upgrade iPhones that are still in excellent condition. The company emphasizes that advancements in system capabilities will make everyday tasks feel speedier, more seamless, and more enjoyable.
Although the exact release date for iOS 27 is yet to be announced, it is anticipated to be available in September.
