During a recent episode of Question Time, audience members reacted audibly and later applauded when a guest confronted a politician from Reform UK about immigration. The guest requested that Zia Yusuf, head of policy at Reform UK, refrain from mentioning immigration during the show. However, Mr. Yusuf acknowledged that he could not comply with this request. The tension escalated when Robert Jenrick’s comments branding Handsworth, Birmingham as a “slum” were challenged by the panel.

Zack Polanski, leader of the Green Party, interjected accusing Mr. Yusuf of spreading misinformation and fear about immigration. The audience responded warmly with applause and cheers. Mr. Polanski questioned Mr. Yusuf about his focus on immigration as the primary issue, suggesting that fear-mongering was not the solution. Despite attempts to continue the discussion, Mr. Yusuf interrupted Mr. Polanski.

This heated exchange took place at the beginning of Thursday night’s Question Time in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The conversation was initiated by the controversy surrounding Robert Jenrick’s remarks at a Conservative Association dinner, which sparked outrage in the Handsworth community.

An audience member expressed discontent with the portrayal of immigration as the root of all problems in the country. They criticized the Conservative government’s handling of issues and highlighted the impact of their policies on areas like Handsworth. Despite the audience member’s plea for Mr. Yusuf to avoid discussing immigration, he confirmed that he would address the topic during the show.

Mr. Yusuf defended his position by citing a YouGov poll that identified immigration as the top concern for British voters. He acknowledged that while immigration was a significant issue, it was not the only one facing the country. Mr. Yusuf emphasized the negative effects of mass immigration on the UK, attributing blame to both the Tories and the Labour government.

Following this exchange, Mr. Polanski engaged with Mr. Yusuf, leading to applause from the audience in Shrewsbury. The debate continued until host Fiona Bruce intervened to conclude the discussion. The episode also touched on Donald Trump’s role in the Israel-Hamas agreement, with the leader of Hamas in Gaza declaring an end to the conflict.
