Halfords has declared that it will shut down all its stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day this year to allow its UK staff to have a well-deserved break and spend time with their families. The motoring retailer will also be closed on Christmas Day but will resume regular operations during the rest of the festive season.

Henry Birch, the Chief Executive Officer at Halfords, expressed gratitude towards the hard work of the staff throughout the year, emphasizing the importance of giving them the opportunity to relax and enjoy quality time with their loved ones. Birch highlighted the significance of closing the stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day as a gesture of appreciation and to ensure the team returns rejuvenated for the upcoming year.

Following an increase in sales and profits in the past half-year, Halfords reported a 9% rise in cycling business sales for the half-year ending on September 26 compared to the previous year. The total revenues for the same period saw a 3.3% increase to £893.3 million. Additionally, the group observed a 1.1% growth in like-for-like motoring revenues and a 4.3% rise in its autocentres business.

Apart from Halfords, Home Bargains has also decided to keep its stores closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, continuing its tradition from previous years. Similarly, Aldi will close its doors on December 26 to allow its employees to relax and enjoy the festive period with their families, showcasing appreciation for their hard work during the busy Christmas season. Aldi will extend its operating hours leading up to Christmas to accommodate customers preparing for the holiday.

In conclusion, the decision to close stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day by these retail chains reflects a growing trend of prioritizing staff well-being and family time during the holiday season.
