An imminent deadline looms for individuals who have not yet received their Winter Fuel Payment. The payment, valued at up to £300, is disbursed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to individuals aged above the state pension threshold. Those earning over £35,000 annually must reimburse it through the tax system.

While the majority typically receive their Winter Fuel Payment in November or December, those who have not by January 28, 2026, can reach out to the Winter Fuel Payment Centre. To do so, individuals can either call the Winter Fuel Payment Centre helpline at 0800 731 0160 or send a letter via post to the Winter Fuel Payment Centre, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton, WV98 1LR.

As per GOV.UK guidelines, most payments are automatically processed in November or December, with recipients informed of the amount and designated bank account. Failure to receive notification or payment by January 28, 2026, necessitates contacting the Winter Fuel Payment Centre.

Winter Fuel Payments are issued to individuals born before September 22, 1959, who claimed specific benefits in the qualifying week of September 15 to 21, 2025. Those not meeting these criteria can apply for the Winter Fuel Payment by contacting the Winter Fuel Payment Centre via post or phone by March 31, 2026. Exclusions include individuals receiving hospital treatment, incarcerated during the qualifying week, or residing in a care home and claiming certain benefits.

In Scotland, the Winter Fuel Payment has been substituted with the Pension Age Winter Heating Payment, ranging from £101.70 to £305.10.
