Japan’s quarterback, Take Taniguchi, threw five touchdown passes, while Canada’s former CFL quarterback, Michael O’Connor, managed three TD passes. In the quarterfinals, Canada will compete against American Samoa, who surprised by defeating the top-ranked U.S. team.
On the other hand, the women’s team claimed the top spot in their group with a flawless 3-0 record following their 34-20 victory over Japan. Their upcoming quarterfinal match will be against Austria. A win in this game would propel the Canadian team into a semifinal clash against the winner of the duel between Mexico and Spain. Quarterback Sara Parker exhibited an impressive performance with four touchdown passes against Japan, including two to Caroline Moquin-Joubert.
