A wellness coach from Tennessee in the United States faced a life-threatening situation following a poorly executed breast augmentation surgery that led to one of her implants rupturing, causing a significant open wound.
Lo Watson decided to undergo breast enlargement surgery as a personal treat for her 40th birthday, at a cost of $14,500 (£10,457), in August. She expressed that weight loss had impacted the appearance of her existing implants, prompting her desire for the procedure.
Having agreed to a moderate size increase, Lo was surprised by the substantial enlargement performed by the doctor, resulting in a size 32E chest. Despite initial concerns about the size, she trusted the doctor’s expertise and awaited the expected reduction due to swelling.
After three weeks, an incision below her left breast burst open, but her concerns were dismissed by the doctor who advised using medical tape to close the wound. However, as swelling and abnormal fluid accumulation persisted, Lo sought a second opinion, leading to the immediate recommendation for implant removal.
The local doctor attributed the implant rupture to their excessive size for Lo’s small frame, leaving her with significant scarring and emotional distress. This situation has also impacted her work as a wellness coach and online presence, causing insecurity about her appearance.
Despite the traumatic experience, Lo plans to undergo implant replacement once her body has fully recovered. To support herself financially during this period and seek legal assistance, she has launched a fundraising page.
