High street bakery chain Greggs is set to debut its inaugural pub, offering unique beers alongside its iconic sausage rolls.
Named “The Golden Flake Tavern,” the pub will open within the Fenwick Newcastle department store, introducing its first brew this Saturday. Crafted in partnership with Newcastle-based Full Circle Brew Co, patrons can enjoy two exclusive draft beers: the Pink Jammie Pale Ale and the Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager.
In addition to a well-stocked bar, the venue will present a Greggs-inspired cocktail selection. Diners can indulge in a choice of 15 traditional pub dishes influenced by Greggs, such as the chicken bake Parmo, steak bake mixed grill, sausage roll & mash, and the Greggs ploughman’s platter.
The dessert offerings include yum yum bread & butter pudding and pink jammie trifle, a delectable concoction of doughnut pieces nestled in jelly, adorned with jam, custard, and whipped cream. This new pub initiative follows the triumph of the Greggs restaurant within Fenwick two years ago.
A highlight of the pub experience is the traditional Sunday carvery, featuring options like steak bake, chicken bake, or cheese & onion bake as the main dish, accompanied by sides like cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, and Yorkshire puddings.
Beginning October 7, the pub will host a weekly quiz night every Tuesday, with team tickets priced at £5 for up to six participants.
The Golden Flake marks the latest collaboration between Greggs and Fenwick, following previous successes like Bistro Greggs in December 2023 and the Greggs Champagne Bar in 2024. Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs, expressed excitement over this third joint venture, aiming to provide a unique British pub experience to both returning and new patrons.
Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, also shared enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the fusion of beloved Greggs classics with Fenwick’s distinctive in-store experiences. With a seating capacity of 88, the pub encourages reservations through the Fenwick website, with walk-ins also welcomed. The establishment will operate until February 15 next year.
